leads to some monasteries located in enviable locations and immersed in total tranquility.
Secret Sporades
Moni Metamorfosis Sotiros
With its roots in the 16th century, this serene monastery, just under 4km
east of Skopelos Town, is the island’s oldest, home to a single monk.
It consists of a small central church (beautiful floor consisting of bowls),
around which develops the 2-storey monastery. From the entrance of the
monastery you can enjoy a magnificent view of the valley below reaching the sea.

Taxiarches monastery
The Taxiarches monastery was founded in 1672, it was
an important place not only for religious life, but also for
the economic one. The monastery is situated in a pine-covered
area of Glossa and outside the perimeter there is an ossuary.
It is located in the shade of a plane tree.

Agia Varvara monastery
Varvaras is no longer in operation, so much so that the
monastery was purchased by the municipality, renovated
in 1998 and now operated as a museum. It has a
mini-boutique where you can buy local Skopelos
products such as spices and a tasty honey.
Prodromou is instead the place of worship in the current
convent, located right next to Varvaras.

The intense faith and strong link to the religious worship of the Skopelites is
seen in the large number of religious structures present on the island.
There are four hundred churches, monasteries and chapels.
Only in the capital there are more than a hundred, while throughout the
island there are over forty monasteries.
