Where was Mamma Mia filmed?

Skópelos is part of the Sporades Archipelago, and is a real paradise on earth with its endless pine forests, its ancient orthodox churches, its white houses and its incredible beaches surrounded by high rocks and thick Mediterranean vegetation. This island is so beautiful that it seems almost unearthly, and it is not by chance here that most of the exterior scenes of Mamma mia have been shot!
WHERE IS THE CHURCH FROM MAMMA MIA! VISIT

Agios Ioannis Kastri

Built on top of a cliff in the sea connected to the mainland by a rocky walkway, the small chapel of Agios Ioannis is the place where Sophie and Sky should get married. It’s the most striking location in the whole movie. It is not known when the chapel was built: local history tells that the inhabitants of the island carved a staircase in the rock to recover an icon, at that point they built a chapel. Hollywood fame aside, it’s a really magical place and well worth reaching.
THE MOST FAMOUS BEACH OF THE ISLAND

Milia Beach

Milia beach was the base of the film video taping. Milia is the most famous beach of the island, which is helped by the fact that it is the largest. It offers a beach bar with umbrellas, while visitors may find quiet spots on both flanks. In Milia Beach, the protagonist begins to read Donna’s secret diary lulled by the rhythm of the classic Honey Honey.

Kastani Beach

With its crystal clear sea and fine white sand, Kastani was the set of three scenes of the film: when Sophie and her beautiful betrothed Sky play Lay all your love on me; when Tanya, on the notes of Does your mother know, She mocks a handsome young man who would like to entertain her and when Sophie and Sky leave the island singing I have a dream. The beach of Kastani is located about twenty kilometers from Skópelos town, in the western part of the island. It has become one of the most visited tourist destinations of the Sporades Archipelago, with daily tours starting from the center of Skópelos and all the nearby islands.
